Flottemanville Hague (La Malbreche) N49 36.867 W001 41.545 Map 1210EThis site is a real enigma, in the respected book on the V1 sites in le Manche, written by Régis Grenneville he states that this site was used for the assembly of V1s, from where they would be delivered to the lighter V1 sites. He also suggests that the building of the same type that is found at Bricquebec and Valognes with a large entrance at both ends through which the V1 could be pushed. The main problem with that hypothesis is that there are no doors to the garage only the steps down at the end nearest the road. The building at Flottemanville Hague uses the same construction techniques at those later V1 installations built in 1944 and that it was connected with the V1 is certain. Inside the building are a number of smaller office type rooms running off a central corridor and also a large room running the length of the building. Could this building have been the headquarters for the IV ABT 1st Batterie who were know to have their control post in this area. They were responsible for the V1 sites to the west of Cherbourg. Their launching site included Brecourt, four of the Ski Sites Flottemanville Hague, Nouainville, Hardingvast both the east and west sites. Added to this they also crewed the light sites at Nouainville, Tonneville, Sainte Croix Hague, Branville and Vauville. Alongside the building is the usual concrete road, still in good condition and a concrete gully to drain water away from the site. |
