The beach defences at Barneville complemented those at Carteret. Most of the concrete is still visible with the exception of the R612, although the sea and dunes are reclaiming the efforts of the Todt Organisation. The Barneville, Carteret and Baubiny gun emplacements all were on high alert on the morning of D-day, together with the positions on the Channel Islands as the C47's bringing in the 82nd and 101st Airborne Troops flew overhead. This Resistance Nest was among the last to hold out during the American advance to take the peninsula on June 18th 1944. The German's here were from the 206th Panzer Regiment who were badly equipped and at around 50% strength. Wn329 R612 - Vf58c - Ringstand GrW - Shelter - Ringstand 50mm KwK L/42 - 75mm FK231 |
